At the Grunyk & Associates, P.C. in Naperville, Illinois, we put families first, treating all members with the dignity and respect they deserve. In addition to divorce, custody, child support, and property division, our family law firm handles other matters of importance to families.

  • Adoption: In some forms of adoption ("open adoption") birth parents retain certain legal rights to communicate with, or visit the child. A birth mother, in some circumstances, can choose the parents she wants to raise her child. Our adoption practice includes stepparent adoptions and grandparent adoptions.
  • Guardianship: Whereas adoption creates a parent-child relationship, a guardian is often appointed  to make decisions for the  benefit of a  person,  a child or an incapacitated adult.
  • Paternity: Mothers may wish to establish  paternity  to obtain child support for a child. Conversely, fathers often wish to establish  their parental rights to a child so they can establish a visitation or parenting schedule  to see the child, to establish a relationship with the child and to enforce other parental rights.
  • Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements: Prenuptial agreements are made prior to marriage, to address how a couple would want to divide up their assets and income in the event that they are faced with a divorce at some time in the future. A post-nuptial agreement is made after the marriage,  often after a change of circumstances affecting one of the spouses.   Both agreements have become increasingly common particularly as women have become more financially independent over time and spouses (men and women) are concerned about preserving assets for children from their prior marriages.  The more you know about the law before you marry, the more you can protect yourself and your spouse in marriage.

Attorney Danya A. Grunyk has been practicing, lecturing, writing about, and teaching family law for almost 20 years. She and her professional staff are committed to being accessible to you, responsive and respectful.
